The National Dyscalculia Centre has published a range of books and materials for teachers and parents of dyscalculic children that will enable you to work with your dyscalculic child at home. Although it is always impossible to predict outcomes, we certainly feel that regular work using these books with your child can result in the child developing a clear understanding of maths that is suitable for the child’s age. The books themselves are not written for any particular age range – the determining factor is the level of mathematical ability that the child has. All three books are based on the idea that the parent works with the child for about 10 minutes a day working through the problems posed in the books. In order to undertake the tasks you will also need some basic maths cards and some counters of the types used with games such as tiddlywinks.
