I CAN's Dawn House School provides intensive and specialist support for children and young people aged 5 -19 years who have severe speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) which prevent them from realising their full potential intellectually, academically and socially. At Dovers Green we are very lucky to have a Special Needs Support Unit as part of our school. The unit is known as “Badgers” and provides places for up to 16 children with special needs who require the benefit of small group work and a high level of adult support. Badgers caters for a diverse range of needs including physical disability, learning difficulties and speech and communication difficulties.

Furze Down School is an all age (4-19), co-educational day community special school for pupils with an increasingly wide range of special educational needs within the Communication and Interaction strand. The school has recently gained Specialist School Status in this area and caters for pupils with speech and language delay, impairments or disorders (20% SLCN); specific learning difficulties (4% SpLD); moderate learning difficulties (37% MLD) and those with needs on the autistic spectrum (24% ASD).

The school benefits from a speech and language unit. The unit comprises two classes known as “bases”: There are two bases: Green Base (Key Stage One) and Gold Base (Key Stage Two).
The Bases serve 16 children, altogether. These are pupils who have very significant communication difficulties which affect their learning. Admissions to the Bases are governed by a Local Authority panel, and decisions are made following assessments by the educational psychologist and speech therapist.

There is Additionally Resourced Provision in the school serving the Chiltern/South Bucks District, staffed by a teacher, a part-time speech therapist and support assistant for up to 10 children with specific speech or language delay or disorder. These pupils are integrated into the class.

Lancasterian school is a specialist communication establishment dedicated to teaching and supporting children with a range of physical and medical disabilities. We specialise in helping children overcome their disabilities and communicate with the world around them. In some cases, we provide our pupils with a voice for the first time in their life. At Lancasterian we also teach a range of students aged between 2½ and 16 years old who are unable to attend mainstream schools due to their unique educational needs.

Lansbury Bridge School has been designed, and is resourced, to meet the needs of children with complex learning difficulties. The school has 170 places. The range of needs include children with autistic spectrum disorders, physical disabilities, medical difficulties, speech language and communication difficulties and a broad range of learning difficulties (mild to severe). However, the school has been designed to be a flexible resource that is able to respond to new areas of need in the future.
