Hearing Impaired Resource Centre
Auriol Junior School is a Hearing Impaired Resource Centre. Several children at the school have a hearing impairment. These pupils benefit from the school ethos which values the contribution that they make to the life of the school. Inclusion of all children is important to Auriol.

The Hearing Support Resource is a 6 place unit, which has been established for over 22 years. We follow a natural aural/oral approach with the emphasis on listening, supported by speech, reading and the good use of audiological equipment. At present we have 3 students across all year groups.

Broadmere Community Primary School is a mixed day school with 240 pupils on roll, and a Nursery of 52 part time places. The school is additionally resourced to provide an inclusive education for 6 deaf children, with a fully qualified teacher of the deaf, specialist equipment and and acoustically treated teaching areas. In addition, the children benefit from newly installed Soundfield systems in every classroom

Chailey Heritage School, in Sussex, is a charitable special school for young people, aged between 3 and 19, with physical disabilities. All of our young people have access to a very high level of clinical and therapeutic input from our NHS colleagues on site. All of our teachers and hands-on staff are highly trained to work with young people with complex needs.

The Hearing Support Department
(sometimes referred to as ‘The Hearing Impaired Unit’) is the Lambeth secondary provision for students with a hearing loss and accompanying communication and learning needs who will benefit from specialist Teacher of the Deaf and Teaching Assistant (TA) support throughout the school day. The department is located within The Elmgreen School, a state of the art, new-build comprehensive so enabling a high degree of inclusive education and involvement in social experiences.

We focus on the language development abilities of each child and create a programme specifically for that child. This may involve BSL teaching, Cued English or other language programmes. All primary school students will receive direct support from one of our speech and language therapists.

The Lighthouse deaf unit in Surrey offers children and their families highly specialised education in the inclusive mainstream setting of Guildford Grove Primary School. We are unique to Surrey, in that we offer sign supported communication to deaf children, mainly through Sign Supported English, but also through British Sign Language when needed. The deaf children are full and active members of their mainstream classes, enjoying a rich and varied school curriculum, while also getting the support they need to develop their language skills.
