We offer placements for all sorts of disdvantaged people oe learning difficulties, mental health problems, dementia, young people. For some people coming to Clinks care farm may be part of a road to recovery, for others it is an opportunity to learn new skills and part of work preperation. We do not see ourselves as a 'daycare' facilty but a farm that offers disadvantaged people opportunities in life by allowing people to come on the farm and take part in the work.

Placements are often funded through direct payments. The new 'Farming on Prescription' scheme (which is what the news paper article was about) allows people with mental health problems to be referred by Mental health linkworker in their GP surgery for a 12 week placement on the farm. This is a year long pilot project and only for those served by GP's in Great Yarmouth & Waveney NHS.

Dog AID (Assistance In Disability) is a national voluntary organisation which provides specialised training for people with physical disabilities and their own pet dog.

Please note that at this time Dog A.I.D. is not able to offer training to people with mental health disorders or to children.

The main difference between Dog AID and many other assistance groups is that the disabled owner learns how to train their own dog. Generally all the training is carried out by the owner with supervision from a specially trained instructor.

Future Roots is a social enterprise that strives to bring people, farming and the countryside together. We do this within the ethos of 'care farming' (Care Farming) which means that we use the environment and activity of a working farm to enable people to discover new skills, learning and confidence. Sometimes this can be as simple as feeding an animal for the first time or working together with others to stack a hundred and fifty haybales in the barn.

Whilst we have a strong focus on working with young people (because they are our future) we are keen to develop activities that offer everyone opportunities to 'get connected' with farming and the countryside. We also feel strongly that Rylands Farm should be a place for young and old to meet and share experiences together – one of our longer term aims is to develop projects that feature intergenerational work; knowledge, skills and experience being passed down from the older generation to the new.

The Charity was founded in 1994 with the express purpose of helping young diabetics come to terms with their condition. The concept was to relate the lifestyle of a horse to that of a diabetic given that there are many similarities . Simply put, the child learns to care for the horse and learns to care for himself at the same time. Obviously that is not the total of all that is achieved, riding itself has been considered a therapeutic activity in its own right for some time and communication is an essential activity when riding or just being in a yard.
If you would like to know more about the Centre based at Morelands Copse farm in Eastleigh Hampshire then please contact Kerie Coutts.
