Spinal Cord Injury has a devastating effect on the 1,200 people who become paralysed each year.
The individual affected will lose muscle and sensory control and the vast majority become full time wheelchair users for the rest of their lives. Historically, the majority of spinal cord injuries have been sustained by those aged 15 to 40, with men outnumbering women, although increasingly it is affecting more older people too.
Through its projects and programmes, Aspire offers practical support to the 40,000 people living with a spinal cord injury in the UK so that they can lead fulfilled and independent lives in their homes, with their families, in work-places and leisure time.

Bedford & District Cerebral Palsy Society was established over fifty years. Our primary aim is to support people in North and Mid Bedfordshire with Cerebral Palsy, their families and carers.

What We Provide
An information and support service, which allows those individuals to make informed choices, access services and work together with us towards the development of more 'needs-led' services.
Playschemes or activities in all school holidays.
Monthly Saturday activity clubs.
A monthly "Indulgence" support group for parents/carers.

In 2001 the camp re-opened as a day centre, providing holiday activities for special needs children. In term time it is a venue for special needs support groups and schools.
CATS (Children on the AuTstic Spectrum) is an after school and holiday group which meets weekly after school. Its members are young people of mainstream ability between the ages of 8 and 13 who have an Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Hawks is a youth group for teenagers (13 - 19) of mainstream ability on the autistic spectrum, which has been developed as an extension of CATS.

Down’s Syndrome Oxford is organized and funded by parents and supporters to provide information, help and activities for children with Down’s Syndrome and their families in the Oxfordshire area.

Members of DSO are children and adults with Down’s Syndrome, their parents, carers and supporters of the charity plus many key professionals such as physiotherapists, pre-school teacher councilors, teaching assistants, health visitors and other people working in the community with people with Down’s Syndrome.

Swimming pools are not just limited to physically fit and healthy swimmers. Swimming can provide an intense workout for skilled swimmers as well as a relaxing session for those who are not as capable or healthy. Water rehabilitation, also known as aqua therapy, is a form of physical therapy that is recommended by many medical professionals.

Water resistance creates different biomechanics for certain body movements, as compared to traditional physical therapy methods of weight resistance. Water is simply more soft on the joints and muscle, and allows for better physical rehabilitation. To get the best possible water workouts and results, people need certain aqua therapy and water rehabilitation equipment.

Recreational and therapeutic swimming for people with disabilities and their families.

We provide recreational swimming for disabled people and their families on Sundays from 5.00pm until 6.10pm.
